The beautiful Military Macaw 🦜 Captured this bird still for a very brief second recently at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Winged Encounters is seriously one of the coolest offerings at the park! Seeing so many beautiful birds flying overhead is a very rare sight. They mention how you only really can see that sight in the wild. Which is such a powerful statement. It’s unfortunate that with modern society we have to go to a theme park to get a glimpse of what happens in small parts of untouched wilderness. Habitat loss is such a big factor that’s hurting wildlife. By shrinking the animals native habitats, they are forced into smaller, unfamiliar areas. Often times human wildlife conflict happens during this process, and it all adds up to the loss of the Earths biodiversity. While conservation is often doom and gloom, a place like DAK gives me hope. Ordinary people experience extraordinary things at the park. Getting to see beautiful endangered birds fly overhead, or a herd of elephants browsing for food just makes for a once in a lifetime experience. People who work in conservation are people who care, and it really shows. These photos are pretty cool though! Not only are these birds beautiful and very rare, they are also super difficult to capture. These birds are constantly moving around. From jumping from post to post, tearing apart a nut, or just shaking their feathers, there are no still moments. It also doesn’t help that the group only stays by the tree for a minute max.
