MENOPAUSE WEIGHT GAIN
This is without doubt one of the topics I am asked to discuss the most.
As you know I’m all about embracing our bodies and self acceptance but I also appreciate the reality is that for many women the inevitable weight gain often associated with menopause can impact confidence which in turn can affect your mental wellbeing and motivation, as well as place us at higher risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Of course calories v calories out is fundamental but I would love you to avoid getting hooked on this as it can be a fast route to disordered eating especially if you’ve had issues in the past.
Start by looking at what you are eating and drinking, when you eat and how your body feels.
Do you get hungry often, have a tendency to mindlessly snack, skip meals , drink too much alcohol and cut out key food groups?
What does you exercise routine look like? Are you lifting HEAVY weights, or just settling for something that feels comfortable?
Are you committed to making change and progress?
Often we want results without having to do the work - this just won’t happen. You are the only person in control of your future self and making change.
What are your priorities? Working out to look a certain way will hinder your progress because we often place unrealistic expectations on ourselves.
Working out to FEEL good , to feel strong, to sleep better, and to manage your stress is something you can feel and measure. This is what keeps you committed and motivated.
Are you expecting too much too soon?
Creating change, loosing weight and making new habits takes time .
Give yourself 3-4 months to feel the benefits.
Please remember all of this is achievable BUT you have to start sometime - STOP putting it off AND commit to yourself.
