📚Book Review: Darius The Great Is Not Okay 🫖 By: Adib Khorram Published: August 28, 2018 Darius Kellner struggles to fit in. At home, he’s not Persian enough. At school, he’s not American enough. A trip to Iran to see his sick grandfather changes everything for Darius, who finally makes a friend there that makes him finally feel confident in who he is. Y’all, I slept on this one for so long and am kicking myself for doing so! Thank you so much for putting this book on my radar months ago, @readbyryan! There’s so much to love about this book. On the surface level, I was geeking out about all the Star Trek and Lord of the Rings references. I was actually watching the latest season of Star Trek: Picard while reading this, which made it even more special. Darius also has a deep rooted passion for tea, which you know I’m all about! I was really struck by how the author navigated the complexities of social identities and how they impact how someone moves through life. Darius’ Persian and American identities, the realization of his lack of attraction to girls, and his depression are all threads woven intricately and beautifully into this book. Spoiler - I’ve already read and loved the sequel...review to come tomorrow! 😉 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 #QOTD: what are you read this week? 👀 [Picture ID - Book on a chair with the shadow of a iron table in the background.] #DariusTheGreatIsNotOkay #AdibKhorram #YA #QueerYA #ComingOfAge #BookReview #Review #Reader #BookWorm #BookCommunity #Bookstagram #GayBookstagram #QueerBookstagram #QueerYourShelves #InstaDaily #InstaMood
