This week on Behind the Views: Marcel Lesch (@evolumina). Marcel picked up his first camera in high school, when he would travel to nearby woods and different cities to experiment with long exposures and black and white captures. But it wasn’t until he was later working as an au pair in the U.S. that he began taking his craft seriously. . Thinking back to when photography really clicked for him, he recalled a photography trip to Banff and Jasper National Parks in Canada. “This journey made me completely fall in love with photography. I truly enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors, chasing every single sunrise and sunset for a week straight,” he recently shared with T+L. . Marcel’s approach to travel photography: “When I visit a new place, I usually do my research on Instagram, Google Maps, 500px, Locationscout, and other similar platforms to get an idea of what can I expect from the location. I try to get an idea what time of the day or what season suits the destination, and from there I start planning my trip,” he says. “But don’t focus too much on the research in advance. Give yourself the time on the ground to find locations spontaneously. I would say that I got nearly all of my best images when I did not follow the schedule.” . When asked about his advice for aspiring photographers, he says, “Don't focus too much on gear. I used to bring two camera bodies, five lenses, a drone, and so many accessories. A few years later, I only own one camera body and three lenses as well as a small drone. It’s the perfect kit for me, as I can move more quickly with a smaller backpack.” . In Marcel’s go-to gear bag, you’ll find a DJI Mavic 3 drone; Canon R5 camera; and RF 15-35, 28-70, and 70-200 lenses. . All photos by @evolumina
