announcing the Steel Guitar Arts Council! @russpahl and @whittenwright approached me recently about putting together an informal collective of forward thinking steel guitarists that could help shine a light on artists who are playing the pedal steel outside the confines of country music, and are exploring its potential as a texture and tone machine, an ambient soundscape creator, and also a traditional compositional instrument. after meeting with the fellas a few times, we’ve come up with some plans to highlight diverse pedal steel guitarists, both past and present, who have colored way outside the lines of any tropes the instrument may be known for. we are going to be bringing you some dope pedal steel nuggets via social media channels ( follow @steelguitarartscouncil ) and curated live shows, the first of which is this wednesday @nelson_drum_shop ! many of y’all already know about the experimental pedal steel compilation i curated and produced recently...we will have vinyl copies for sale at this show for the first time! there will also be a livestream for those of y’all outside nashville! link in bio :)
