we started working on this story immediately after roe v. wade was overturned. when it became clear this would be a huge, team-wide project and no way it could be a quick turnaround, some people wondered if we should just kill the piece since it would be coming in “so late after the news — will people still care?”
it’s true that losing a federally protected right to abortion is no longer the *only* thing people are talking about... but that right doesn’t seem to be coming back anytime soon and it’s important that even people who *do* still have access stay loud and mad.
in all of these convos, which brands support a human’s right to health care should be low on the list of priorities — but if these brands want to use “female empowerment” as marketing language, we thought it was important to make sure they’re actually empowering the consumers (and their employees) that allow the brand to exist. so, we asked 99 brands what they’re doing to support and protect reproductive rights — you can read it all on @allure right now.
