I’m running out of words to say around this topic. It’s not a compliment. What I’m wearing doesn’t mean I’m asking for it. I’m sick and tired of this constantly being something women have to deal with every single day. Just let women exist. Leave us alone. It’s just weird. Can all the guys here have a word with their mates pls cus im tired of having to educate on why this isn’t ok. UPDATE aga scaffolding have reached out to me with a really strong apology and resolution to the problem. They really took this seriously which I wholeheartedly appreciate. I know lots of people (many women) in the comments said that what happened is “not that bad” and whilst it could be worse, this behaviour is something that feeds into something far more insidious. This form of everyday sexism feeds into misogyny and is the entry/level into a system which makes the world less safe for women to exist in. I would like to encourage any woman who faces this to take note of the company and raise a formal complaint if they feel comfortable to do so. It may feel like it’s “too much” for something we have been conditioned to accept as normality, but it’s a small step in trying to regain a bit of control and saying f u to the patriarchy. I’ve had so many women reach out about how often this happens and how uncomfortable it makes them feel for just existing - but it’s the comments and messages from girls age 13-15 which hit the hardest. Why are children being subjected to this, out of everyone? So no, this catcalling may not be the worst thing to happen, but not talking about it means that nothing will ever change. I’d like to encourage this conversation to continue in order to make the world a safer and more comfortable place for women of all ages to simply exist. . . . . . . . . #catcalling #feminism
