Check out this vibrant painting of ‘Bathukamma Festival’, a regional festival of Telangana by Kapu Rajaiah.
Kapu Rajaiah, born in an underprivileged family in the Medak district is known for bringing revolutionary changes in modern Indian art by introducing local traditions such as Bathukamma, Kolatam etc. into his paintings. They are symbolic depiction of varied communities and characteristics of Telangana villages.
This painting depicting the Bathukamma festival is a colourful representation of the cultural soul of this festival. Women dressed up in traditional attire with jewellery, accessories and holding offerings are travelling together breezing a sense of festivity and celebration. This composition is truly a magical interplay of primary colors. This painting is done by using oil on wood and is dated to 1962.
