If you saw someone digging through your unwanted garbage for cans, would your first instinct be to rush outside to scream and curse at them or would you see how you could help them? The tragedy that happened to Mr. Ma and his family was preventable. Our community leaders (including #AAPI) and government need to have a more honest convo about the most vulnerable in our community. Is govt using every resource at its disposal to ensure the most underserved are reached? The answer through Covid and recent Hurricane Ida was ‘no’. Language access, investment in community organizations and grassroots operations are the floor of what we should be doing, and also what many of us electeds and community leaders had to continuously beg for- from all levels of govt.
