How do you stop human trafficking networks from smuggling women across borders?
How do you track billions of dollars flowing through banks to fund ISIS, Hamas, and Hezbollah?
How do you prevent major cities from becoming drug trafficking hubs—while ensuring secure and seamless financial transactions for legitimate businesses?
The answer? Artificial Intelligence.
It’s no longer just about flagging suspicious transactions—it’s about identifying fraud patterns, terror financing, money laundering, and human trafficking. Predictive AI and ChatGPT are no longer just buzzwords; they’re actively transforming the financial world, closing loopholes for criminals, and strengthening global security.
Last week, I had the opportunity to document Fintech & AI Over Drinks—a high-energy gathering in JVP hub in Soho that brought together over 150 entrepreneurs, investors, banking leaders, and FBI representatives.
Hosted by ThetaRay and Greenberg Traurig, LLP , the event sparked bold and thought-provoking discussions, from a $3 billion fine that rocked the industry to the ways AI is revolutionizing financial security with unprecedented speed and accuracy.
The lineup of speakers included Peter Reynolds (CEO, ThetaRay), Yaron Hazan (Head of Regulation, ThetaRay), a senior special agent specializing in complex financial crimes at the FBI, Ziv Biron (CEO, IDB), and Edward Lew (Head of Compliance, Payoneer).
Each offered deep insights into the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of fintech and AI.
Capturing the atmosphere of such an evening—one filled with groundbreaking conversations, live music, and an electrified crowd—was an absolute privilege. (Text adapted from the social media of Erel N. Margalit.)
