I have a long history of studios since starting a small business at the tail end of graduate school and the recession. After moving abroad and back, having a kid, I think I’ve learned to embrace both adaptability and the resourcefulness that most NYC creatives relate to when dealing with small spaces. Anyways this is all to say after so many studios I’m happy to announce studio #7 shown here is all to myself this time, (still at the canning factory) - and I’m not going to take an INCH of this space for granted and I hope everyone can finally visit me without feeling scared and cramped in a corner. See you all soon!✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼
(Special shouts to @bccodey for the custom studio builds and overall partner amazingness and @brooklyn_f.i for giving me the🚦for this move)
**Swipe for a history of studios since 2012**
[Viking Mill, Philly] 2012
Pros: By far the cheapest studio in history, made tons of work like shown bc I was going insane after being laid off from work.
Cons: the Kensington strangler was at large at the time and leaving victims within blocks of the building.
[Paper Box, Philly] 2013
Pros: The second cheapest studio in history, had my own sink and shared with my buddies Aylor and Jess, rented from friends Amy and Leo~
Cons: Had to move shortly after a few months
[Kollwitzstraße, Berlin] 2013
Pros: This was the only studio that let me work here I was so desperate I was throwing notes through open windows of spaces I noticed pottery wheels in. Shouts to @jeannekoepp
Cons: Listened to too much Deutsch Radio
[Dobbin Mews, Brooklyn] 2014-2015
Pros: Sharing with buddies Minh, Steph, and RJ - basically it was the Asian version of the 1996 movie, The Craft but instead of witchery, just lots of Peter Pan donuts and noodles. Felt like a friends retreat.
Cons: Parking and an hour + commute
[The Castle at Saipua, Brooklyn] 2016-2017
Pros: The most beautiful open studio, eating communal lunches and being surrounded by flowers all day, lots of Kate Bush.
Cons: not having walls? IYKYK
[Canning Factory, Brooklyn] 2017-2021
Pros: Being across the street from WF
Cons: cramped in 80 sq ft space
