Please meet Will Gomez, The MJF Sir Geoff Palmer Award for Brewing: “My name is Cesar Wilfredo Gomez-Roman but all my friends and family have called me "Will" since birth. I'm originally from Puerto Rico but moved to Buffalo NY when I was 14 years old. It was in Buffalo when I first discovered craft beer during my college years and I immediately fell in love with it. I started homebrewing in 2018 when I moved to Kentucky. I then started working at the OZ Tyler Distillery (now Green River Distilling Co.) in Owensboro, KY in 2020 in the bottling department. I had a great time working there and formed lasting relationships. Soon after, I discovered that Owensboro was opening its first brewery in over 100 years sinc3 prohibition. I contacted the owners to see if I could volunteer so I could learn more about the brewing process. The brewery (The Brew Bridge) opened in July 2020 and I was hired on in September of that year and became the head brewer soon after. We started off on a 1BBL brewhouse and after a year upgraded to a 7BBL system. I am so excited to be a part of this industry and I am passionate about making beer and connecting with so many different people through beer. I believe that with the education provided by the MJF scholarship I can gain a greater understanding that will allow me to provide an even greater experience for all of our wonderful guests."
