This month marked the 9 year anniversary of the #BlackLivesMatter movement which began in 2013. To commemorate, we’re honoring two Afro Latinas who are shining a light on Afro Latinidad and holding space for the community to be seen and heard. Lisa Cortés is a director and producer, while Mai-Elka Prado Gil is the founder of the Afro Latino Festival in New York.
