This past week has been extremely difficult. I’m still in disbelief waiting for someone to wake me up from this dream. On Wednesday, we lost the Matriarch of our family. My grandma. My best friend. The woman who helped make me the person I am today. When I was asked as a child “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I would always answer my grandma. She is my hero. If you’ve ever had a conversation with me, I promise you she has come up at least once or twice. I couldn’t stop telling people how amazing she was. She was fierce. Sassy. Sweet. Caring. We talked everyday. She didn’t miss a beat. She was so so proud of me. My grandma was a successful nurse who took care of many people during her career at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. It’s been amazing to hear stories from former colleagues. She never came across a stranger. She took everyone in as her own. She loved hard, laughed loud - and brought comfort through her amazing cooking. I selfishly wanted you to be here with me forever. I didn’t want to imagine how or when this day would come. I hope to find comfort in knowing you are now at peace and resting beautifully. I love you so much Grandma and miss you dearly. 🕊
