It’s important to understand that the brave and resilient Iranian women you are currently seeing are not just protesting having to wear a mandatory hijab, they are fighting for their RIGHT TO CHOOSE. They are fighting against the oppressive Islamic Republic, a regime that regards women only half as valuable as that of a man. These women (and men) are freedom fighters not traitors - they are fighting for a fair education, employment opportunities and the basic human right to thrive in a country and be afforded the same rights as Iranian men. Sadly, 59% of the world’s women do not have bodily autonomy - meaning women do not have the right to make decisions over their bodies without the threat of persecution and violence. #MahsaAmini’s murder is an example of this. Women’s inequality is a UNIVERSAL threat and one that is being fought in every corner of the Earth, including the United States. As my friend @sarahshahi says I stand as one, but I come as many.
