Part of my way to the kind of process I have adapted is via pattern, thinking about the architecture of a painting, specifically the support—canvas and linen. I began to subtly piece and sew bands of found textiles and stretch as support. The printed stripes were formal and decorative, relating to a body and to the grid. Then I saw the same pattern in dyed corrugation. Painting stuff. . One time I titled a painting Orange Flip, for my late Memaw’s lip stick (that I’d stolen from her vanity the day of her funeral 🫣). That tiny painting went missing after the show (gallery paid). It was the only income from the show, and I know it was my Memaw talking to me. . So before the opening @susaninglettgallery earlier this month, i wore two scarves cause my friend, Laura, says that its cool (it is, see @michimeko). I ducked into @pacegallery to see @torkwasedyson and somewhere on those three blocks, I lost my Memaw’s silk scarf. Damn it. But the TD show, worth it. Double worth it if a piece goes into a collection. And that is how a mystic ends a story.
