It’s very weird to see photos of myself performing because while I’m doing it I’m allowing myself to be as present and connected with myself as possible. This way, I can offer up something honest, even if it means that it’s sometimes “flawed”. This is one of the biggest shifts that has happened in my work over the past while.... Most of us go through life in a habitual state of disconnection (myself included). So, the question has become; how can I re-trace old and discover new pathways back to myself in my daily practice. So that in a performance setting I can still find my way. It means that I have more awareness of what my body feels like, than what it looks like while I’m performing. It’s a deeply rooted part of my approach. Hence why pictures always take me by surprise. Anyway, Here’s a still moment taken of me: mid-flow, alive, sweaty, emotional, sounding. —— Fire in Our Bellies; The Welcome: Maïa Nunes & Rory White Performance within the context of the exhibtion Evan Ifekoya ~ Resonant Frequencies at Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst April 2, 2022 Photo: Nicolas Duc
