Avoiding the Scams: When we arrived, I had no idea what was going on. I thought we were at the main entrance since I’d never been here before. It felt odd that the area was so empty, especially compared to the lively scenes I’d seen in videos. The man who approached us was very aggressive, insisting that the only way into the floating markets was by boat and that cars couldn’t go inside. If you’re new here, like I was, this setup could easily trick you. The boat ride itself takes around 30 minutes to reach the actual floating market, so you’d be charged for at least two hours. The prices at this spot were way higher than at the actual floating market too 2. Setting Expectations: I expected the market to be packed, but it was surprisingly less crowded, which was nice. When you’re on the boat, the market itself is small, with a short strip of vendors selling food. Once you pass through, you can’t turn around, so you’ll have to circle back if you want to return to the food area. I recommend ordering everything you want the first time to avoid paying for an extra hour on the boat. 3. Time Considerations: I was only in Bangkok for three days, so visiting the floating market turned into a day trip. Traffic was heavy on the way back, and it took us nearly three hours to return. If you’re in Bangkok for an extended stay, the floating market is definitely worth experiencing. But if your time is short, consider whether it fits with the rest of your plans. The food was solid—not mind-blowing, but definitely enjoyable. The real highlight was being with friends and trying something completely new together. I’m really glad I went, but it wasn’t quite what I expected, and I didn’t anticipate nearly getting scammed.
