There’s a regenerative protein that may unlock a longer lifespan.⁠ ⁠ This ‘magic’ protein is called GDF11, and it was first identified by researchers studying mice at Harvard Stem Cell Institute. The scientists discovered that surgically joining a young mouse to an old one rejuvenated the cardiac and skeletal tissue of the latter thanks to the increase in GDF11 received via the bloodstream. ⁠ ⁠ Luckily for us, the protein is expressed throughout many tissues in our bodies; the downside is that it drops significantly in our later years, though. So could this mean our GDF11 levels are intrinsic to determining our maximum lifespan?
