Deborah-Joyce Holman in conversation with Cedric Fauq (@fantigold @cedric.fauq @lumawestbau)
The video starts with an excerpt of her video of approx. 8:30 minutes followed by the introduction and conversation.
In her work Deborah contrasts the exploitative potential of images with approaches of artistic and cinematic subversion, refusal and resistance. In the exhibition, the artist presents a newly produced film Moment 2 in a specially conceived installation at schwarzescafé, Luma Westbau. In the nine-hour work, performer Rebecca Bellantoni recites sentences from the film Portrait of Jason (1967) by Shirley Clarke, in which Jason Holliday is put under pressure. Holman reacts to the exploitation in her work, also recorded in a hotel room, and uses repetition and non-performance as a means to restage refusal and resistance.
In the exhibition is still on view until 21.8.2022. Afterwards the film will be shown at @c_o_r_d_o_v_a_ in Barcelona
