I went back to see this painting by Florent Groc today at @doublevgallery after I fell in love during the expo @lamaisonclosearles ... I love how paintings have a specific relationship to time and space that is stronger than our own relationships with time and space. This painting, born from the hand and mind of a man, born from a moment in time (specifically a moment of deconfinement- you can sense this is the celebration on the canvas) ... and born big, the format is grand and tall and your eyes widen as you take it all in... now has a voyage to make. I can feel, I can really feel it, that this painting has places to go and people to see. Of course I would love to see it on the wall of my house, but I am even more overjoyed that it will travel to Luxembourg art fair and maybe be discovered by someone who doesn’t know the work of this artist @florentgroc and who falls in love with the homme lapin, and the moving lava and the blueberry bush and the grandeur and the layer cake and the nod to the worlds that exist in and around us in technicolor and contemplation... and this is so exciting!!!!! So you see, the agenda of this painting is one I cannot alter, nor do I want to. I hope I can follow its destiny... but if I can’t, and it disappears into the ethers, I can use my imagination to picture its incredible destiny. And this is a celebration really... this is a party. And in this way I keep a little threaded link to the celebration in the painting. Gosh, I don’t know what I would do without the parallel universe that paintings provide. 🙏🙏🙏 (ps last picture is a wink to @arsenewelkin - an incredible piece I spied at the gallery - it is also going to Luxembourg!!!)
