638 days. That’s 1 year, 8 months and 29 days. I transferred to Dodge College on August 28th, 2023. 638 days later, I write this message upon graduation. I’ve worked thousands of hours, contributed to over 200 sets, shot 3 thesis films, 2 advanced productions, and one too many IPs. But none of those numbers compares to this: In this time, I have met about 1,000 people. A thousand people that have changed my life. People I couldn’t be more proud to call my friends. That’s what I want to talk about. With no furniture left in my apartment, I just spent the last 15ish hours looking through all the names of people I’ve come across in the time since arriving to college. The fact that I could see a name, recall dozens of memories, and do that hundreds of times over really made me think. This experience reminded me how grateful I am for what we’ve built in such a short time at Chapman. From those who brought me onto their crews and made me feel special, to the ones who didn’t know my name but knew the Kenough hoodie, and the 3rd floor faculty who hated when I knocked without an invite: you didn’t have to do that. In a world where most people are out for themselves, the fact that you took a chance on being my friend, collaborator, and someone to share the hustle with means everything. I’ve never felt more love from a family I got to grow and lean on through these speedy four semesters. Someone asked me recently: “Now that it’s over, would you do anything differently?” All things considered, I said: “Absolutely fucking not.” Can’t wait to start this next term of life with you all.
