Tribune of the Planalto Palace. It is used by Brazilian presidents on ceremonial occasions, usually to address the crowd, and traditionally on inaugurations. Few people know that Niemeyer initially designed a much larger structure which actually got built to its full height, with an interior spiral staircase leading to its top level. It was later decided to partially demolish it, making its proportions more harmonic with the façade. A drawing also indicates that a curved concrete canopy was envisioned, but it never got built. A preliminary design of the palace also shows that Niemeyer not only originally wanted the structure in raw concrete, but that the tribune would be clad in Italian travertine marble, atesting the architect's wish to highlight this solemn element. __________________ PT Tribuna, ou parlatório, do Palácio do Planalto. Juntamente com a a icônica rampa, a tribuna é o único elemento original que avança da projeção da laje superior. É usado pelos presidentes brasileiros em cerimônias oficiais, geralmente para se dirigirem ao povo, e tradicionalmente nas posses presidenciais. Niemeyer inicialmente projetou uma estrutura muito maior que chegou a ser construída em sua altura total, com uma escada espiral provendo acesso ao seu nível superior. Posteriormente, optou-se por por uma demolição parcial que tornou suas proporções mais harmônicas com a fachada. Um desenho também indica que uma cobertura curva de concreto foi prevista, mas esta nunca foi construída. Um anteprojeto do palácio também mostra que Niemeyer originalmente não apenas previu a estrutura em concreto aparente, mas que a tribuna seria revestida em mármore travertino italiano, atestando o desejo do arquiteto de destacar esse elemento solene.
