It's a bittersweet day. My heart aches and swells with pride today as we close Footloose at the @lyceumtheater I cannot really seem to put into words what this particular show and these people have meant to me. It has been such a joy and honor to work with this group of young artists. The rehearsal room was quite simply brought to you by the word "YES!" Every single request that I put out there was met with "YES!" Learn a new lift, push outside your comfort zone, take a wide character swing, jump, turn, belt, flip, leap, kick, cry.... they tried(and perfected) ALL OF IT! Every single person on and off the stage poured tirelessly into this production. This was a beautiful cohesive team effort and I could not be more proud of the final product. The act of making theatre is so singular. We throw our hearts, sweat and tears into something for months. We become like a family and as quickly as it comes together... it is over. It vanishes into thin air. BUt it lives forever in our memories and our hearts and our souls. It changes and shapes us. I will leave a piece of my heart with each of these people and our production of Footloose will live in my heart always. At the end of a show... I always think of the song "For Good" from Wicked. It seems especially true for this experience: I've heard it said that people come into our lives for a reason Bringing something we must learn And we are led to those who help us most to grow If we let them and we help them in return Well, I don't know if I believe that's true But I know I'm who I am today Because I knew you...
