As I’m nearing the end of my “maternity leave” (using that term loosely bc we never really stopped working, belly birth scar and all) I find myself reflecting on my career, the concept of “work” and the multiple shifts I have to make for my family and my wellbeing. I won’t lie, it’s hard finding my way back to cooking and to creating special things despite all the pressures of motherhood, the trauma of our birthing experience, erasure & toxicity (still) in this food industry, setting up life in a new city and the ups & downs of entrepreneurship....but I’m “back” And It’s a lot....But damn, Moms are just built very different. And I should know, I’ve been surrounded my so many selfless examples of them. This new community of moms I find myself communicating with is so welcoming, understanding and always always helpful. So, shout-out to the Moms! Our matriarchs. My Mom friends. The Momtrepreneurs. The chef Moms. The Moms mothering without children. And especially the moms raising Black boys and girls. We’re not just “vessels” for new life, we are life itself. 💛 #chefmom #boymom #workingmoms #momlife #blackmoms #jupiter
