Artist Ray Yoshida’s collection on the second floor of the Art Preserve is filled with objects and artworks painstakingly gathered and cared for. Next time you visit, keep your eyes peeled for the scaled-down chapels of Aldo Piacenza.
After retiring from decades of work in 1952, Piacenza dedicated his time to writing poetry, painting, and constructing bird-house models of churches and cathedrals, using photographs from postcards, newspapers and National Geographic, as well as his own memories, as sources for his work. Three of these liturgical birdhouses are currently on view at the Art Preserve.
Aldo Piacenza, untitled, n.d.; wood and paint; 24 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 10 1/4 in. John Michael Kohler Arts Center Collection.
