Is there a book, a scene or maybe even a song that made you cry, because you resonated with it?⁣ ⁣ “I feel like I'm this collection of broken pieces I don't know what to do with.”—The Hearts We Sold⁣ ⁣ •⁣ ⁣ Only a few books have gotten me emotional... over a fictional character, a scene because it resonated with me on such a deep level. Books (and music) help me get out of my own head when I need it. ⁣ ⁣ I recently finished The Hearts We Sold by Emily Lloyd-Jones and I’ll just say, I was NOT prepared to cry over a character. I went into this story not knowing what to expect even though I was already familiar with Emily’s writing but this story got me emotional by the ending. The overall message of this story, I loved it. ⁣ ⁣ “She became her own knight; she collected those broken promises and whispered apologies and fashioned them into armor.”—The Hearts We Sold⁣ ⁣ •⁣ ⁣ Dee makes a deal with a ‘demon’ after she’s out of options, and does what she feels she needs to do in order to avoid going back to her old toxic and abusive environment... but everything comes with a price. There’s paranormal/horror elements, found family, some romance (YA) and the reality of coping from trauma. I get why the ending happened the way it did and even though it felt gut wrenching, that’s what made the story so good. At least, for me.⁣ ⁣ 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤⁣ ⁣ “She was a girl held together by knitted yarn and magic.”—The Hearts We Sold⁣ ⁣ •⁣ ⁣ Shortly after reading this book, I discovered “Run Away to Mars” by @iamtalk on TikTok and I immediately fell in love with their voice, their message behind this song. It made me bawl- it’s a great example of what mental health struggles feel like. TALK’s message on their Spotify, is also spot on:⁣ ⁣ “Show love to everyone you meet, because you don’t know what they’re going through or where they’ve come from.”⁣ ⁣
