Alaska has a vibe // Kinda like the sensation of landing in Hawaii or Indonesia, and feeling the damp, tropical air get slurped up by every cell in the body, only colder. There’s an undercurrent to it that’s hard to pin point. Maybe it’s the elixir of past and present, the people, the history, the flora and fauna, or in the case of AK, the remaining wildness. Stretches upon stretches of uninhabited land, a lot of which hasn’t been altered by the insatiable palm of mankind. Space to physically roam; a vastness for imagination, manifestation, and curiosity. My first trip here nearly a decade ago left a mark on a me. It shook me awake to the prospects of big mountain riding. If you’ve been there, you just know. A trip, looking back on it now, that was a metaphorical fork in the road. Keep following the snow, but with a different focus. The experience threw bone dry cedar on a flame that was nearly out. To have the chance to return again with this team means a heck of a lot more than just a shred trip. It validates that in life, at times there are inklings that need to be followed. Rationality out of the window, overthinking turned-off; turn left a the fork even though you thought you were gonna turn right, follow the intuition; and let the heart steer the ship.
