The magic happens in the mess and all the imperfect moments that come with it. Creating this abstract for Hamptons Holiday House I learned that the designer @cintiadixon of @eichholtz.longisland was inspired by Japanica design. For a long time I’ve been intrigued by Wabi-sabi - appreciating the beauty in the imperfect, the impermanence and in simplicity. I embraced that emotional core in this piece. I incorporated the ripped painted collage on paper as a nod to Kintsugi repairing the intentional rip with gold creating a little mystery in the midst of this minimalist zen landscape. Must admit, ripping the collage was not easy. I’ve been enjoying painting on paper recently (have not exhibited any yet!) and it was part of a finished piece I really loved but pivoting and adjusting to life’s rips and tears and creating beauty from it is a good muscle to build. I love the way the painting plays off Hans van de Bovenkamp’s kinetic sculpture. Holiday House is open until August 17th and it benefits The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
