On this last day of 2022 I took an American Airlines flight from San Juan to Miami. During the flight the Captain made an announcement on the loudspeaker saying that it was the last flight of his 38 years career as a pilot. To celebrate it he paid his wife a ticket so that she could be with him on that occasion. She herself had been a flight attendant for many years. When he finished speaking all the passengers on board of this full flight burst into applause. After having safely landed the plane, as he did all the other planes over his long career, he left the cockpit to give his wife a bouquet of roses. I do not know his name but he is a hero like all his colleagues who never get the recognition for the amazing work they do and that we tend to take for granted. The lady at the check in desk in San Juan (image 2) is particularly creative as she managed to entirely bypass 2022 and go straight into 2023!
