an oil painting of a vibrant, diverse queer community gathering for a luxurious party⁠ •⁠ I created this with @openaidalle, a technology that creates novel images based on textual prompts, in some sense an “artistic AI interpreter” (you feed the machine an idea and it produces four visuals based on that idea) — I truly believe it marks a new era for creativity and expression; people are now able to utilize AI to materialize what lives in their minds!⁠ •⁠ why is this important? 🎆 having an accessible “artistic AI interpreter” allows people all around the world to create representations of their dreams, fears, and curiosities that they may have never had the expertise to convey — this is particularly empowering for communities that lack representation: for the first time, we can instantaneously create images, stories, and narratives that resemble our ideas, our faces, and our bodies — in seconds, we can provide ourselves and our communities with media that validates, inspires, and deepens our existence⁠ •⁠ is the artist in danger? 🧑🏽‍🎨 I don’t think this “replaces” art in any way — art allows an individual to translate what is on their mind directly into something with form (a painting, a phrase, a story), whereas #dalle-2 interprets what is on an individual’s mind and then translates that into an image; technology that generates “art” through the interpretation of a prompt will always be a step removed from the original idea — however, this technology can be useful for artists, individuals, brands, and communities alike, helping them materialize ideas they might not have been able to distinguish in their minds, drawing inspiration from a source that has studied billions of visuals, styles, and references of the human language⁠ •⁠ I want to use dalle-2 to dream up a world for the queers, the indigenous, the people of color, in which all of our communities are celebrated, honored, protected, supported, and cherished :)
