What if you were effortful? ⠀ Our society is obsessed with making everything seem effortless. And women especially are pressured to be likeable caretakers who always put others first. ⠀ On a recent episode of the Archetypes podcast, hosted by Megan Markle, @mindykaling says: I’m effortful. And it hit me - your happiness takes effort. ⠀ Prioritizing yourself and learning to say no, setting healthy boundaries and expressing your needs takes effort. Being intentional takes effort. A healthy relationships takes effort. ⠀ It feels easier to be passive, to let things slide, to look the other way, to go with the flow, and just keep the peace. But overtime, it catches up to you and can foster resentment and cause burnout. ⠀ When we believe that our love has to be “earned” through self-sacrifice, we attach our value to external things. But, you’re valuable even without all those things. This is a hard message to learn, esp since we’re raised to believe the opposite. ⠀ A journal prompt that can help you cultivate this mindset is: in what ways would my life change, if I wasn’t limited by other peoples expectations? What would I do? Use the answer to help guide you back towards yourself. ⠀ We move so far away from ourselves when we are being “effortless” for others.
