TOP 5 THINGS I DID TO HEAL MY HAIR: 1️⃣ I began focusing more on my SCALP than my hair. I thought my dry, brittle ends and my frizzy, parched strands were going to be fixed by the leave in conditioners and the serums... but nothing changed until I began taking care of my SCALP. I implemented weekly oil treatments and have stuck to that consistently for the last 4 years. See my “oil” and “scalp” highlights for more on this. 2️⃣ I took heat seriously. No more heat unless my hair was FULLY protected. And with heat protectants that didn’t have plastics or silicones! I also swapped out my cheap hot tools and invested in high quality. I still use heat pretty often — It’s nothing to be scared of, just something to take seriously. 3️⃣ I chilled out on the bleach! I changed stylists to one that knows my hair and respects it. I was completely over-processing my hair multiple times a year going to a stylist that cared more about their IG following than the health of her clients hair. I also get it done far less frequently now! 4️⃣ I started using a detangler, which I was skeptical about. I didn’t have overly tangly hair... but I realized I was causing more mechanical damage than anything due to brushing carelessly post shower. 5️⃣ I found a shower head filter that actually works.
