The Catrina in Mexico began as a social criticism and satire in the late 1800’s and it was the Mexican artist José Guadalupe Posada who popularized her image through a metal engraving, but it was not until 1947 that Diego Rivera captured her in his mural “Sueño de una tarde dominical en la Alameda Central” baptizing her as “La Catrina”.
