Robert Andrew ‘Garabara’, 2018 In 2018, Australian artist Robert Andrew worked with our Australian team to design, fabricate and install the final outcome, titled Garabara for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences building at the University of Sydney. A significant aspect of First Nations culture is the word ‘Garabara’ used in ceremonies for storytelling and to pass on knowledge. The artist’s use of this word as a permanent part of the building’s façade responds to the site as both the traditional land of the Gadigal People and as a university – a place to reveal and share new knowledge. Created with the intent to appear naturally eroded and stained on the building’s exterior, we worked closely with Andrew through extensive material research, digital 3D modelling, and photogrammetry — resulting in the accurate representation of eroded surfaces. - Image Credit: courtesy of the artist, Rachel See @rachelseephotos and UAP - @robertandrew_111 #robertandrew #fass #universityofsydney #garabara #firstnations #uap #uapcomany #urbanartprojects #incrediblethings #publicart
