Introducing 2022 AIM Fellow Sagarika Sundaram @ohsagarika. Read more below and click the link in our bio to learn more about Sagarika. Working in expanded textile-based practices Sagarika Sundaram creates sculpture and installations that investigate the relationship between architecture, biology and the psyche. Compressing hand-dyed fiber into dense forms, she reinterprets textile as abstract spatial, botanical, and psychedelic forms. By estranging what is familiar, she creates work that possesses its own unique life. The work often engulfs the viewer, calling them to look inward in a reverse observatory experience. Recent recognitions include Art Omi Resident (2022), AIM Bronx Museum Fellow (2022), Hopper prize (2022). Sundaram graduated with an MFA in Textiles from Parsons/The New School, studied at the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, India and at MICA in Baltimore. She teaches at Pratt as Visiting Assistant Professor. In September 2022, Sundaram’s work will be on view at the Armory Show with Nature Morte gallery. Artworks (in order of appearance): “Fingerprint”, 2021 Wool, 144 in x 60 in x 12 in “Zygote” (performance), 2020 Commissioned by Ace Hotel Brooklyn “Passage Along the Edge of the Earth”, 2022 Site specific installation at Art Omi #aimfellow2022 #aimbxma #bronxmuseum
