Happy Wildlife Wednesday! These #BananaSlugs #Ariolimax are putting out good vibrations as they get munch down on this prime porcini (Boletus edulis var. grandedulis). Despite having different coloration, both slugs are most likely the same species, with environmental factors determining whether they are pure yellow or have black spots. . This video is a great example of how they use their iron imbued scrapers (called radula - conceptually similar to teeth) to eat one of their favorite foods. You can also see their sensory and eye stalks at work to sense their environment. The hole on the side of their head (mantle) is called a pneumostome, this is where they breathe, pulling in air across internal membranes for gas exchange.
