It’s #featurefriday 🙌🏾 and today we feature this beautiful photo from MWSRP alumni @kaushman . Here are some fast facts to accompany this awesome photo: . In South Ari Aroll, the primary behaviour observed in whale sharks is cruising behaviour. During this cruising period, the sharks are in the process of thermoregulation. Why do they need to do this? . Well, whale sharks are deep diving sharks, and they need this recuperation time at the surface to warm up after diving regularly in excess of 300m, and occasionally beyond 1500m where temperatures plummet to 3 degree celcius. . It is important that we don’t disturb this essential process (especially in the more lethargic first stages of cruising) as we swim alongside the whale shark at a distance. To avoid negatively impacting individuals, make sure to follow the whale shark code of conduct, detailed in our Instagram highlights section! . 📸 @kaushman . #whaleshark #shark #sharks #sharkscience #wildlife #animals #ocean #charity #nonprofit #uwphotography #marineconservation #freediver #scuba #diving #conservation #sea #maldives #maldivesislands #liveaboard #explore #sustainable #photography #southariatoll #travelphotography #sharkphotography #marinebiology
