-please read- I deleted this photo a year ago when it went viral because it got ripped out of its context and misused by a lot of different people using it to promote their own agenda. In this period I was struggling with depression as many others and I could not deal with the fear of not being able to ever go back to my beloved Iran with all the attention around this picture. Now while I’m personally feeling better it’s hard to see my people in Iran are still suffering and being isolated from the rest of the world. The never ending sanctions take away the power to trade with the world. International systems like banking are needed to create safety and stability when there are inflation rates like now. This is not helping the people in Iran at all! And then the lack of media coverage when people are being mistreated. This has been a thing for such a long time! En voor de Iraanse Nederlanders. Ik weet dat we zelfs in Nederland heel erg verdeeld zijn en veel Iraanse mensen het niet eens kunnen worden met anderen Iraniërs (een deel natuurlijk door trauma’s). Maar laten we proberen om te kijken naar wat ons wel verbindt en wat onze overeenkomsten zijn. Ik heb mijn hele leven geïsoleerd gevoeld van andere Iraniërs hier, door de verschillen binnen de community. En ik leer steeds meer mensen kennen die die eenzaamheid ook hebben ervaren. We komen uit een prachtig land in zuid west Azië vol met verschillende culturen, geloofsovertuigingen en etniciteiten. Al die verschillen maken wat Iran zo mooi maakt. My heart goes out to all Iranian people who are suffering at the moment. I hope they get the attention they need to empower themselves to build a better future.
