Look up and pay attention to details: at Fondaco dei Tedeschi the merchants left traches of themselves, their guilds and their families in the marks engraved in the stone. Note the engraving in the atrium: 'PRINCIPATUS LEONARDI LAUREDANI INCLITI DUCIS ANNO SEXTO' (built in the sixth year of the office of the Most Illustrious Doge Leonardo Loredan, 1506) to commemorate the time when the Fondaco was built.
