📺 Ahead of tonight's premiere for "Never Would Have Made It: The Marvin Sapp story," I'm feeling reflective of this crazy ass creative journey as a writer. A little over a year ago we pitched the network the idea of creating a love story in place of the typical biopic and just a few weeks later we were on zoom calls w/ @marvinsapp spending hours & hours digging through his lifetime of memories (I can tell you his wife's favorite flavor of ice cream, what he got paid at his childhood job, and what radio station was popping in Grand Rapids in the early 80s.) I remember vividly how badly my body ached as covid kicked my ass while I finished a re-write, sipping orange pedialyte as I typed away. That taught me just how strong my mind really is. I learned a lot about myself and this business throughout this process but if I could pass anything on, it would be something MaLinda gave Marvin: on their first date MaLinda asked Marvin what his five year plan was and he completely shut down (not sure if this moment made it from my script to the film). It wasn't long after this that Marvin realized he wanted to marry MaLinda and she helped him build one of the most successful gospel careers ever.
