I get asked all the time by folks where did I buy my outfits and my response is always thriftstores, vintageshops or BIPOC small businesses. 🥰 I been thrifting & purchasing second hand apparel since I was 6 yrs old with my nana. Much like my peers, thrifting was the most affordable & sustainable way to get school clothes or Mending & repairing your cousins & sibling hammy downs. Anybody else’s grow up like that? 🤣🙋🏽‍♀️ My nana taught me to understand fabrics, sew, up cycle and repair your garments with intention. With the rise of #ethicalfashion & sustainability becoming more consciously accepted has opened a seat at the table to become more ethical consumers. Sustainability has altered everything about how I dress, where I shop, & how I spend my money. This is a beautiful way to help the economy & decrease the amount of greenhouse gases that are omitted into the air that project the affects of global warming : : : Moreover, please consider the harsh & unethical work environment that seamstress & textile workers have to endure for the consumption of #fastfashion demands . . . 👇🏽 Did you know in a landfill, “tossed” or “untrendy” clothing can take 3- 50 years JUST TO DECOMPOSE 👀😳 _________________________________________________________ • Cotton: 3 months • Wool: 1 to 5 years • Leather shoes: 25 to 40 yrs • Nylon: 30 to 40 yrs • Rubber boot sole: 50 to 80 yrs 🤯 This has blown my mind & made me do a closet clean out & rethink what materials I am buying & how long I will use it. . . . This is my small carbon footprint on how I will continue to practice #sustainability within my lifetime 👣 & with my celebrity clients I style. Shopping sustainably & ethically holds fast fashion brands & manufacturers accountable to pursue ethical standards from thier textiles, factory workers, garment workers, importers and distribution centers from the design to the clients.
