Thomas J Price ‘The Distance Within’, 2021 British artist Thomas J Price engages with issues of power, representation, interpretation, and perception both in society and art. Closing this October 1st, it is the final week to see the artist’s exhibition at Studio Museum titled “Thomas J Price: Witness.” This exhibition includes Price’s nine-foot bronze figure, ‘The Distance Within,’ located within Harlem’s Marcus Garvey Park, and depicts a young man looking down at his cell phone. Provided with a model by the artist, our team in North America created a 3D printed wax-infused mould, which captured the subtle details from the model created by the artist. With the artist based in London, this process was favored over alternative mould making techniques, as we could be confident the mould would match the artist’s model. Once cast in bronze, our finishing team applied a black patina with a satin finish to the incredible work.
