I had the privilege of being toured by archaeologist @moerkeraed_af to visit the UNESCO world heritage and settlement site #sermermiut ❄️
The wonders of this country are infinite and the instant connection to Mother Nature is something I can truly describe as unparalleled. 🥺
Wanting to see and experience with my own eyes how one of the primary sources of life as we know it is being impacted by human induced climate change has been a life long dream, and sharing it through the eyes of my soon to be motherhood could not have crowned the dream in a more powerful way. 🤰🏼
On the current course, human induced climate change is set to cause irreversible changes to our planet. 🔥
I learned this morning that Greenland’s melting ice sheet, and therefore increase in sea level rise and unpredictable waves caused by glacier break-offs is in turn damaging and eroding fundamental archeological sites. With increase in temperatures the layers of history imbedded in our earth can no longer be preserved, which means we don’t have access to studying how previous populations and cultures adapted and lived in extreme weather conditions. Traditions and local knowledge will be lost. 🌎
People camping are being killed and settlements disappear due to the unpredictability of waves caused by glacier break-offs. 🌊
Last year it was the first time in recorded history that it rained on Greenland’s ice sheet. 🌧
This year the beginning of the warm season shifted of almost a couple of months causing a delay in blooming of flowers and in the mating season. 🌸
There is absolutely no way but change the course of action. NOW ❤️🩹💔
