Oh Box Dye 😫 Let’s talk about it. I’d say this lesson is one I will take with me into next year and beyond 😭 We did a test strand in back of head and it lifted perfectly. We were so excited 😆 Our guest was forthcoming about having box dye in her hair. What we didn’t count on was the front quadrants had more box dye living in the cuticle than the back 😤 Mistakes are always ok when we learn valuable lessons. When I posted this on TOK it got heated! Of course my fellow hairstylists related deeply with the situation. Many non hairstylists came to box dyes defense saying it is their best friend 😂 and were somewhat expressing we charge too much. Let me be clear. I would not client shame or box dye shame someone who chooses to use it. That’s their choice. What I will do as a professional is educate my fellow hairstylists and potential guests of why box dye can be extremely difficult to work with and yes WE MUST charge when a guest decides to sit in our chair and remove it which is a color correction service. I believe we provide a luxury service. They say client retention is 25 percent skill and 75 percent how we make them feel in our chair. It’s a choice and also sometimes a journey to find the right stylist to make you happy. Hair is such an important part of who we are. And as hairstylists we provide a service to specialize in making your hair look it’s best and to hopefully make you feel beautiful. It’s a decision to get your hair done. One that costs money like any other service. In 2023 let’s up lift ourselves and provide luxury to our guests every single time! Charging our worth for the services provided.
