Shooting unit stills for the new, original scripted series, Robyn Hood has been one of the most fulfilling and enlightening experiences of my career, and my colleague, mentor, and friend Julien Christian Lutz pka Director X has positively impacted many lives and organizations through his creation of the show, his relentless work ethic, and leadership. The Pygmalion effect, which is also referred to as the Rosenthal effect, is a psychological phenomenon in which high expectations lead to improved performance in a given area. It is a psychological effect that I have experienced throughout my life, especially since the age of nine when I became a student of the Claude Watson arts program (in the North York district of Toronto), and undoubtedly throughout my career. Working with the diverse cast and crew of Robyn Hood has led me to rapidly improve my capacities as a photographer, shooting 4,000 to 6,000 photographs per day while acquiring a myriad of other skills. For approximately the last two months, I have learned from and been inspired by some of the most talented professionals I have had the honor of working with. One of the most salient lessons that I have learned is that TV production is like the human body or a symphony, such that every part, every individual, every department, and every instrument, no matter how seemingly small, are intimately interrelated and any mishaps within a production can potentially impact everyone involved, delaying forward momentum by seconds or minutes, and in some cases hours, days, or months. The pace on the sets of the show is unrelenting, and the resources allocated to the show, which include but are not limited to capital, human resources, intellect, ingenuity, energy, and gear of all kinds, are incredible. Moreover, working very long hours as a unit still photographer while simultaneously managing and promoting the largest photography exhibition of its kind in Canada, and my largest art exhibit to date, in addition to numerous other projects and responsibilities (to myself and others), has been challenging, but I would not have it any other way, given what Robyn Hood represents. #tv #toronto #robynhoodseries
