✨FEDERICA ANGELUCCI’s FINDINGS Discover the third finding of my guest Federica Angelucci, co- director of @stevenson_za gallery in Cape Town: Thandiwe Msebenzi (@thandiwemsebenzi) ! « Inspired by a rebellious aunt and women from her family who challenged the patriarchal structure of South African society, photographer Thandiwe Msebenzi has created "Radical Makazi", a series of self-portraits in which she portrays an independent woman who wants to take control over her own life. We see her smoking, chewing a gum, making herself beautiful, packing her things and leaving. Through this work, Msebenzi recounts the strategies of resistance of black women during Apartheid. Despite being relegated to the secondary roles of motherhood and marriage, these women played an essential role in the anti-racist struggle. Through this provocative and ironic work, dedicated to the women of her family, Thandiwe gives them a voice."
