Peace and mental wellness are very personal to each of us. Yet we can all benefit from stripping away thoughts, habits, and behaviours that feel disingenuous, heavy or harmful to us. Boundaries like the ones I’ve shared above usually strike a harmonious balance in life and relationships.
When we stop making decisions on auto-pilot, we become mindful of who and what is best for our mental health, and who or what may heighten existing symptoms or triggers that are out of our control. And while it’s easy to look for advice on all the things you can do or be to initiate a more peaceful, synchronized life, it’s up to your to really audit what you can remove.
It’s easy to consume and even apply the advice that facilitates a tranquil existence. But how efficient is it when thrown in the mix of subconscious behaviours that curate resistance, stress, exhaustion, isolation, and unfulfillment?
Take a few minutes to search your soul and ask, “What one or two things can I stop doing to prioritize my mental health and honour my right to a peaceful life?”
Eventually, you will strip away the things you thought were expected of you and find more freedom and ease throughout the day. Or, if nothing else, you will have a greater capacity to address more challenging circumstances without the added weight of trying to be what you believe others want you to be.
Advocate for yourself. Do what needs to be done. And together, we can support one another’s journey toward happier, healthier, and more productive mental health habits.
