We tore up the firepit patio that we created in 2019- we had outgrown the design both aesthetically and functionally. The irregular stepping stones and large river rock were not comfortable to walk on and the small furniture wasn’t ideal for our family of 5, so we decided to update it...
We expanded the patio a foot on each side making it 14x14’ now. We laid weed control fabric and edging before figuring out the layout we wanted with the pavers that we had. Remember, these pavers use to be in our sunroom, and we didn’t have enough for the entire patio so we decided on a square pad in the center, a double border around the perimeter and pea gravel in between the two!
After we determined the paver design, we laid paver base and leveling sand to get the patio as level as possible. We then set the pavers, added in the pea gravel, and finished the pavers with polymeric sand.
After the patio was complete, it was time to bring our design board to life! We brought in all of furniture and accents!
I then decided I wanted to update our whiskey barrels and posts that held our string lights. We removed our old string lights, the Jasmine vine that wasn’t thriving, and I stained the barrels in a dark stain. Justin wrapped the 4x4 posts in cedar and then stained those. We planted Limelight Hydrangeas in the barrels for a fuller look and finished the posts by hanging new string lights, lantern brackets and lanterns!
We hope this inspires you to add glow to your outdoor space to carry you into the next cozy season!
