🌸 SLEEVES 🌸 Getting ready for drag race is the hardest part of the whole thing. Believe it or not I don’t just have these looks sitting around waiting to be worn. I designed these runway outfits in a manic blast, and the real race was finishing them before flying to Rupauls house for filming. That leg of the race had some definite speed bumps. Myself and @backslashgarbagefile are a creative force to be reckoned with. When we put both of our brain cells together nothing can stop us. This sleeves design is one that they were most excited to help make real. The fabric store doesn’t have a huge selection of couture fabrics, but they had this gorgeous pink fabric— and only enough of it to execute if we didn’t make a mistake. They had one sleeve fully made and just as they were starting the other, something terrible and unthinkable happened. Their father Harry passed away unexpectedly. Harry was an amazing person and an amazing parent. Here I was fretting over fabrics and then suddenly brought back to reality. Drag race was about to begin and I was torn between going off to compete in some silly thing, or being with a friend who needed me in one of the hardest times in their life. We talked and cried and they reassured me that I needed to keep going. But it was not easy working without my little beetle. Luckily St. John’s is filled with talented people who I could call in for some last minute help. I got @itstaranova to assemble the other sleeve, and attach them to the body of the dress made by @madmaddox_cosplay_andcreations Backslash loves underwater creatures and it’s kinda cool that the jellyfish, such an ethereal creature, became the inspiration for this. Being in the top this week had me thinking that Harry was with me when I was wearing this outfit, and reminded me of the community of people who was at home rooting for me. But most of all, I need to bring this crown home to eat with backslash garbagefile.
